Jon woke up in a cold sweat. He immediately felt guilty for not helping Karyn. In his head, he told himself that there wasn't much he could do, but in his gut the guilt ran rampant. Jon got out of bed and turned on his computer, too worked up to try to go back to sleep. He typed in "dream interpretation" into the Google search bar, but stopped himself before hitting "enter."
His dream had really affected him emotionally. It didn't matter what it meant. When he woke up, he felt different from when he'd gone to sleep. He could do something with that. Jon quickly closed the browser window, shut down his computer, and grabbed the wishing stone out of his desk drawer.
"I wish," he said, "that I could enter someone's dreams for one night by saying their name out loud before I fall asleep."
Jon looked away, and vaguely felt that his wish must have been granted. He realized that he was too excited to try to go to sleep now, even though the glowing numbers from his alarm clock told him that it was 1:00 AM, so he made another wish. "I wish that I could will myself to sleep by closing my eyes and counting ten sheep in my head."
Jon put the stone back in its hiding place and slipped back under the covers. He thought to himself who the first person should be whose dream he entered, and said...
