It was at this point that a police car pulled up beside them. Two officers stepped out and cautiously approached Jon and Karyn.
"Ms. Karyn ... Black?" one of the officers asked.
"Yes." she nodded.
"I'm afraid you'll have to come down to the station with us and answer a few questions." the officer replied.
"What?" Jon and Karyn exclaimed.
"A man was found dead in your home a short time ago." said the officer, emotionlessly. "On the floor of your bedroom, as a matter of fact."
Jon and Karyn stared at each other in shock. Both realized that this was the stone's interpretation of the last wish, but they could not say anything.
"But how?" Karyn asked. "Why?"
"We're hoping you might know. Come to the station and answer all our questions. This isn't an arrest, just a routine questioning. It's possible you had nothing to do with the man's death, but we need to pursue all the angles."
Karyn was starting to panic. How could the stone have interpreted Jon's wish that way? Where did the body really come from? She couldn't tell the officers what really happened. If she did, they'd think she and Jon were crazy.
She turned to Jon, with a pleading look that said We've got to find some way out of this!
