She loved her life, even if it had its problems. And it wasn't just her. It was the countless number of things that were different just because she had been there. Her best friend, Jessica...who would she be friends with without her? Mallory had talked her out of some stupid decisions over the years...what if without her, she went through with even one of them?
"My reality is the only reality," she said, stubbornly, putting the stone away.
Karyn, in the meantime, was outside of town, in the mountains...thus out of range of the wish and oblivious to the fact her best friend had been wished out of existence.
Not everyone went away for the week though. Several people hadn't yet left town, and many were staying at home.
However, even though Karyn herself wasn't in town, her life there had changed.
So when she came back a week later, and entered her room, she was shocked to find it was different. She didn't know what was going on. Who would come into her house and change around her room and nothing else?
She tried to call Jon, to tell him about it, but a girl answered. "Sorry, wrong number," she said. But when she tried again, she got the same girl. "I'm sorry, I was trying to reach my friend, Jon. I checked the number..." The line went dead. "Hello?"
"What's going on?" Karyn mused.
