Fortunately, that was something his mother had been wanting to hear for quite some time. "Of course I will, Luke. You might need to put the nose ring on yourself, dear. I forgot how that works." she said as she took the red case from him. He turned his back to her and lifted the hair from his ears so she could do it. "You're pretty cuddly today, Luke." she remarked. "I just really need this right now." Luke said. She hummed to herself as she put the left stud in, then the right. Once they were in, he fingered them for a second before turning back to face her. "Thank you." he said softly. She nodded and handed the case back to him. Luke still had to put the septum ring in. He did so very quickly. His mom winced as she never quite got Luke's fascination with it. "I'll say it again. You remind me of a bull every time I see you put that nose ring in. If you had to have one, you should have had it in a nicer color." she said. Luke scoffed. "If it was any metallic color, it really would look like a big bull." He then put both his pointer fingers up against his head to mimic horns. "I guess that's right. I didn't raise a cow."
Unable to resist, Luke gave her his best cow impression. The moo was hilarious enough for his mother to start laughing uncontrollably. Luke sighed. He did not think it was that funny. "Come on mom." he said blandly. She was not able to respond. went around her to get something to eat. There was breakfast cooked, but there was only enough for Luke's mother, father and sister. He usually did not come down until noon at the earliest. Luke was fine with that. He went into the cupboards and got some cereal and a bowl. In the fridge, there was some milk to pour. He sat at the table in time for his father to come down. He was dressed very smartly for work. "Would you look at that!? We pull the plug, and our son finally grows up." he said towards his wife as he sat down at his place at the table. She kissed him on the cheek as he served his pancakes and bacon. "Oh, honey! Luke had me laughing all over the kitchen today." she said in a mirthful mood. "Yes. I heard you. A marked improvement from all of the screaming." he said with a smile of his own. Luke sighed at their peak lovey-doveyness.
Several minutes later, Luke's sister came down. She was still in a really bad mood. Looking at her, Luke saw that she was also dressed sharply. Her food was waiting for her when she sat at the table. There was less time for her to eat than usual, so she ended up scarfing it all down. All the while, she was glaring at him for messing up her morning routine. Luke just rolled his eyes and continued eating his cereal. His sister and father worked in the same area, so they took the car. Luke was going to need to take the bus. He did not have the money because he was officially cut off the day before. That meant that he would need to ask his mother. When they had left the house, he stayed behind to help his mother with the dishes. She washed and he dried. His mom was over the moon at the change. When the last dish was put away, he looked at her. "Hey, mom?" he asked for her attention. It was not hard for him to get it, being less that 2 yards away. "I need some money for the bus today. I was walking yesterday and there was this place I think I can get a job at." he explained very nervously.
Rejecting the request was the furthest thing on her mind. "Of course you can get some money for the bus!" she said with a look that said it was obvious. She then looked a bit guilty. "It was a little short-sighted of us to leave you stranded downtown with no money at all. But something came of it, right!?" she explained quickly. Luke just nodded. Things seemed to be going his way. 'Maybe it's fate or something.' he thought to himself. "I think so. At least, this could be the start of something big." he said to her. She said "I was planning on cleaning the house today. My purse should be on my dresser. Get a $20 bill. You can use the change for a nice snack out there." Luke thanked her and went back upstairs. The purse was right where she said it would be. Luke took the money he was allowed and not a penny more. Stealing from a family member was not something that he would do in a million years. With cash in hand, he ran down the stairs and past the kitchen where his mom was sitting down. "Bye mom! See you later!" he yelled as he moved towards the front door. She just waved him off.
