I had a good 10 kills as I was making sure to go for humans that were busy looting. I also was not ashamed to kill steal from the others. That was 2 of the kill milestones right there. I got the 15% boost to Reach and in Magic. It was totally random. Their kill count was good too. Shank got 5 because he got right up in the half-orcs' faces. I just marveled at him. Obviously because they looked the strongest. It was badass, but not effective. Knat and Krit were partners. They got 12 kills together. So were Ace and Deuce. They had 11. That was enough to get them all to the first kill milestone. No one in the village was able to wield us, so we did it all for ourselves. I could not blame them for that. It was a high stress situation. We went over to the next village and there were even weaker bandits here. They were all humans too, so they could not see us. This time there were only 20 of them. I let the others get their fair share of kills. Shank once again was the most blood thirsty. He tore through 10 of them on his own. The others each got 2 each. That left me with the last one. It was pretty cool.
Doing this was really helping the residents of the valley. With the devastation of their numbers, they had to call off the raid. That saved all of the other villages from attack as well. It happened to be that there was a human with a bit of fey blood in them in the village. The fey blood in him was very thin, but he could vaguely make out our shapes. Other than that, we were just blurs to him. He could hear us only if we shouted at him. He was a middle-aged man. He was certainly not warrior material. He was the village scribe. He could read and write, but not fight. His name was Fabio. He was educated enough to know stories of what the evil spirits could do, so he was really respectful. It also turned out that young children and those pure of heart could see us. There were very few adults that were. One was a blacksmith's son name Darrien. I could tell that he could fight from how he waved the sword that his father made around when he thought no one was looking. He lived in the fourth village. The other was a maiden that took care of the orphan's of the third village. She was not a fighter either.
Even still, we could still allow humans to see us. Shank walked up to one of the warriors in the fifth village that he thought was strong and knocked him over. The young man was winded from the sudden strike to the ribs and all of Shanks weight on his chest. "I like this one. He looks like a hero." the domineering blade spirit said. It was true. The young man was tall, broad chested, athletically toned with sun-kissed skin and had a friendly look on his face. Shank leaned down and kissed him on each of the eyeballs. It was deep blue before, but now it was electric blue. He looked at us and yelped in fear. We calmed him down and told him what was going on. He seemed to accept it pretty easily. The gossip in the valley spread. He was named Gavel and was excited to tell his friends and family about him being chosen to be a hero. They were skeptical, but his glowing eyes could not be just waved away. I was leaning more towards the blacksmith's son myself. Some of Gavel's friends and his rival wanted to be chosen too. Krit just chose his rival. Probably just to get at Shank for beating him.
Feeling aggrieved was one thing, but I wondered if Ross could wield him properly. A bit less petty, Ace and Deuce chose two of Gavel's friends. They were Happ and Jux, who were excited to be chosen. His other friends were all disappointed. Knat choose Darrien's older brother, Liam. All of us were being wielded by a champion and we were spread out between two of the villages. Our slaughter of the bandits did not stay in the valley for long. It was not something that could be done. The bandits came back. This time, they brought a bandit captain with them to mess with us. It gave us no pleasure to hear how the first 3 villages were totally routed and looted. Knat and I were before they got to the others in the fifth village. Because of that Knat and I went over to Darrien and Liam. We told them to get ready. This was not a drill. They were a bit nervous, but they were going to go fight. The 4 of us went out in the center of the village and waited for them. Their father walked out with them. The bandits soon appeared before us. The boys were wielding us. It was pretty weird for me to be wielded.
