Sarah turned to go back to the boxes, but stumbled on her first step and fell with a thud.
“Ow!” Sarah exclaimed, “What the fuck! That really hurt! What was that?”
She looked back to see a pair of Jon’s shoes strewn across the floor.
“Oh my god, you are so messy. Why do did you leave your big, dumb, ugly shoes on the floor? Why do you even have those anyway?”
That’s when an idea struck her.
“Hmm. I think we can fix this.”
She picked up the shoes and carried them to blue box, placed them in, and closed the lid. When she opened it back up, the shoes were gone.
“Oh, thank goodness. Those were gross. I’ll bet all your other shoes are just as bad.”
She went to his closet and started rummaging through. Sneakers, athletic shoes, formal shoes, sandals, flip-flops; Sarah pulled all of them out and took them to the blue box. One-by-one, she put them in the box and closed the lid. One-by-one, they were removed.
“Ugh, those were disgusting. Be glad I got rid of those for you. So, Jon, that’s all of your shoes gone. Tell me about the shoes you wear to school.”
Jon thought about going to school. He could remember wearing clothes and even socks, but shoes were nowhere in the picture. It didn’t even make sense, but he could not remember ever wearing shoes.
“Uh, I…” Jon muttered.
“It’s okay, Jon,” Sarah replied, “I’ll get those old grody shoes replaced for you.”
The tell-tale sound of the red box opening was heard.
“Here, Jon, these are yours.”
