The boy pondered this as he climbed up the stairs and entered his bedroom. How could he not? He sat down on his bed and held the stone in his hands, and uttered those fateful words: "I wish I knew my biological father's first and last name." That was it. Starting safe, starting small, just a name.

Jon froze up, dropping the stone in his lap. This was supposed to be a safe wish. How could his father be named Gillian DeVries? And... where else did Jon know that name from? Zoe had a friend named Athena DeVries, could Jillian be...
It was like being on the beach, when you get knocked over by a big wave and then the moment you right yourself another, bigger wave comes and knocks you down even harder. Yes, Jillian DeVries was definitely Athena's mom. Jon's dad, apparently, according to the stone, was Zoe's friend's mom.
He shouldn't have wished. He shouldn't have wished to know his dad's name. Now he couldn't just leave matters as they stood, Jon needed to have more clarity. Was Athena's mom trans? Did she have a relationship with Jon's mom? Maybe the stone was speaking in some kind of code.
Whatever this meant, Jon couldn't wait any longer. He picked the stone back up: "I wish..."
