Zipping over to the office, I spent my time helping out the human writers and other staff. They were fine and it allowed me to do lots of stuff. One of those cool things was getting the available PEP unit performers to endorse my new mayoral candidate. Owen and his lover, Krista also had a commercial on the local television stations. We also had a full court press on the radio. 2 human candidates threw their hat in the race for the mayoral election. One was a retired cop. He was well respected and liked for his distinguished service in the line of duty. The other was a small business owner. He ran a restaurant and several food carts stationed around the town. He sold hot fries, hotdogs and burgers. There was also some soda and juice that could be purchased as well. It was pretty nice food from what the humans were saying. There was even a cart outside the studio. I was sure that we were going to win the election. As the town was very small, there was only need for 1 debate at the town hall. After that, a single week would pass before the election. I was not allowed to help them out at all.

As Owen and Krista were PEP units, the transmission hub became very interested in the results. Because the town had been under a very intense siege before, it would be a moral victory to take over the town. Having a PEP unit become mayor would be the first step. Once that happened, the mayoral administration positions that were appointed by the mayor would all be filled with fellow PEP units. From there, it would be easy to implement many policies that would make it easy for PEP units to live in town. Being mayor would also make it easier to run for higher offices in the future. With all that on the line, the transmission hub was not willing to let outsiders interfere. I did not care what it wanted. I did what I wanted. However, the transmission hub was not playing around. All the PEP units in the clan were under strict directives to detain and restrain us if we tried to see Owen. While very sorry and reluctant, they made it clear that they would definitely enforce the directive they were given. They were not allowed to refuse this order. That made me suck my teeth in frustration. It just sucked.

Being that was the case, I just sighed and shook my teeth. "You better win then. I also want the money back. Transfer it back into my account!" I said. I got an alert at my bank right after. The money was back. After that, I was a non-invested party. It's not a good thing to be sidelined. To be honest, it was something that pissed me off a bit. I was a Player. Since that was the case, Owen and I had no more contact until the election. I did not even care about the town hall. The clan wanted to have a big party on election night. I was not in the mood. They had to drag me to the polls so I could vote. I was not going to do it at first, but I changed my mind when I was there. I did not like being told what to do. Especially when it came from NPCs. There was a streak of rebellion in me. I voted for the cop in protest. After that, I was brought to the studio for the party. There was endless lemonade being served. It was non alcoholic for humans and the PEP units actually could get fully drunk from it. That would make it the best of both worlds. There were also snacks and food for the humans at the music studio.

It was a small town, so the results came in that evening. The polls ended at 9pm and it was announced at 9:35pm. Owen won the election with 42.83% of the vote. It was a plurality, but not a majority. That might make it hard to do lots of things. It was not a really strong mandate. The cop got 31.92% and the businessman got 20.10% of the vote. The rest of them were write-ins from the public. The members of the clan were celebrating. It was a major blow against humanity. It would not be an immediate defeat, but if left unchecked, the world could fall into ruin. I wondered if they would be able to find out in time. Probably not. The transmission hub would probably be very defensive of the town now. I don't think that any efforts to infiltrate the town or look into Owen would go far before being targeted for assassination. Even I would not be able to live if all the PEP units tried to kill me on sight. The strength was not the problem. I could beat any of them. The actual problem was that they were everywhere. It would not be fun. I would not have a moment of rest or peace. That would get annoying.
