Sarah didn't understand what was going on today. It was as if her life had gone completely out of kilter. The only saving grace was that she wasn't gaining weight as she'd originally thought. Her clothes felt much more loose on her than they had before practice. Her uniform must have just shrunk in the wash.
But even with that, she noticed she was being ignored by boys in the hall who were talking about how impressive Gladys was. How a former unknown had revealed herself to be a surprisingly wonderful cheerleader. She wondered if she could take herself out of school till things worked out.
She thought about faking an illness. The school nurse was a clueless old biddy who could easily be convinced of most imaginary illnesses. Then she could call her mother. Her mother understood the value of a mental health day from when she was in school. They could go out shopping maybe.
