Zoe had been trying to get hold of her best friend, Athena, for hours. There had been no answer and no one had seen her. Nadine was acting nutty as well...as if she was a complete stranger.
She was about to try dialing Athena's place again when a wave of distortion passed through the room.
Zoe had been trying to get hold of her best friend, Nadine, for hours. She'd been acting strange all day...as if there was something going on she couldn't tell Zoe about.
There was a knock at the door, and she opened it. Nadine was there, looking rather confused and disoriented. "I didn't know where else to go," she said. "I'm so confused."
Reality had layered itself on top of Nadine. She had gotten into this mess because of Athena, and Athena as she knew her didn't exist, and she wasn't aware of that. The result was that Nadine had no idea who she was. Was she a devout Christian or a witch?
Zoe guided her inside, and let her sit on the couch. "This has been a weird day," she declared. "I've been getting these weird vibes all around school, as if something was up. I wanted to ask you about it, but...you don't exactly look up to it."
"Me?"
"Nadine...you're the expert on magic. You know a lot more than I do."
She did? It comforted Nadine oddly. Everyone else seemed to know who she was. And everyone else couldn't be wrong, could they?
