She was the last person anyone would ask to be in a school play. She had to get herself alone and see what had been done to her.
"I skipped lunch," Athena lied. "I...need to go get something to eat," she said.
"Well, we ordered a pizza. It is going to be a long night." one of them, a girl Athena had seen around but didn't remember the name of said. "Let's just run through it once," she said.
Athena let herself be ushered away. With a lot of encouragement about how good she was, she was shoved on stage and someone started playing the piano. As soon as the song started, something strange came over her. She actually started to sing.
"I was born in a ditch by a mother who left me there, naked and cold and too hungry to cry. I never blamed her, I'm sure she left hoping that I had the good sense to die."
To her shock, she was good. She was selling it. She could feel part of her, the part enhanced by the magic. She couldn't be sure if it was talent she'd always had or magically granted talent.
The entire drama club clapped when she finished. "I think," that girl who had come to get her said, "they only picked Jennifer because they didn't want a freshman in the lead," she commented. "You're great," she smiled.
Athena couldn't help smiling, very impressed by her performance as well. But she needed to get home and reassess things. Call Zoe, and find Nadine...who knew what happened to them?
