She began darting around, moving to avoid accidentally spotting anyone. She finally got to the side door, the least public of the exits, and was about to breathe a sigh of relief when a voice asked, "What are you doing here?"
She startled, and looked up to see two members of the drama club looking at her. They'd been practicing for their upcoming performance of Man of La Mancha and had just suffered a major setback. The girl playing the female lead, Aldonza, had come down with appendicitis and they had no understudy.
Athena felt dizzy, leaning against a wall. She could sense herself at the center of the spell, like the eye of a hurricane, a change in local reality spreading out around her...and into her.
"We're glad you're still here. We just heard Jennifer went to the hospital. She'll be out for a few days. We need you to take over the role," one of them said.
Oh, shit Athena thought. She was the last person anyone would ask to be in a school play. She had to get herself alone and see what had been done to her.
