(Author's note: Linda's story was ahead of Sarah's...thought I'd bring them timewise together)

Sarah's parents were at a charity function that evening, which meant that Ada and Sarah were alone in the house at night. Sarah would normally be out, but she hadn't gone to school that day, much less talked to any of her friends.

When she came into the dining room to see about dinner, Ada was sitting there with a drink and had the television on to some reality show. She normally ate in the kitchen. "Que hay para dinner?" She asked, mixing Spanish and English without even realizing it.

"What?" Ada asked, not taking her eyes off the screen.

"Dinner?" Sarah said.

"Later," she said.

Sarah shook her head, annoyed. "I'll do it myself," she said, muttering something that sounded like vaga. She headed to the kitchen to make some food, mumbling some choice words about useless the Polish woman was.

When she returned with a plate of food, Ada had barely moved. She set it in front of Ada. The woman barely looked at her, but took a bite.

Sarah shook her head and went back to the kitchen. She didn't need to be around Ada. It did give her an idea though...maybe she could tune in a Spanish language channel to get better at her studies. There was a smart display in the kitchen that she'd used to find how to make the meal, she tuned it to a spanish language stream and listened as she cleaned up the stove.
