Zoe, Jons younger goth sister, and Athena, Zoes friend who was also part of the goth crowd, were sitting in Zoes room late at night preparing for an exam, when they heard a noise from Jons room right before something falling down into the bush beneath Jons window. They both sticked their heads out of Zoes window and saw a shadowy figure climb out of a bush with a grumble and sneak away.
"Jon, is that you?! Who are you?!" Zoe yelled down.
"Seriously, that guy has a bit more weight on his ribs than Jon" Athena whispered
The guy turned around, his hood and the darkness of the night blocking the view to make out his face.
"I wish me and this stone would get transported home!" he whispered in a hasted voice holding something in front of him.
Both, Zoe and Athena were able to hear his words and saw how the guy disappeared with a small flash.
"Okay, fuck learning, that guy just used magic!" Zoe almost shouted.
"You're right... He... He most definitely did though. We need to check it out."
Zoe grabbed a flashlight and both of them ran downstairs and out of the door to check the position where the shadowy figure disappeared from.
"Athena, can you locate that guy or something?" Zoe asked pointing her flashlight to the ground.
"There is definitely some sort of magic remnant here, let me focus." Athena closed here eyes and looked like she was trying to weave the air with her hands.
"No chance," Athena huffed out of breath, "These remnants only show there happened something here, but the teleportation itself must have been very advanced, there is nothing to indicate even a direction... but there is one thing.", she pointed to Jons open window.
"I feel some sort of aura coming from the room."
"Oh shit! Jon! Why didn't we check earlier!" Zoe whispered in a hushed voice with a shocked expression.
"Alright, but we have to be careful, we don't know what that guy did to him" Athena replied.
Zoe nodded and both stormed back upstairs
"JON!" Zoe shouted barging open Jons door.
Athena shook her head, "So much about being careful".
Jon jumped up in his bed and saw his sister standing in his doorframe with Athena closely behind her. She had an expression Jon had never seen on her face, she looked troubled, almost starting to cry.
"Zoe... What... it's in the middle of the night..." Jon mumbled with a sleepy voice taking a glance to his clock.
"I... are you alright?" Zoe asked.
There was clear concern in her voice, something had happened. Jon nervously looked to his desk where he put his rock. It was still there, he felt as if it did look unusual, but he shoved that thought aside for the moment.
"I was, up until a few seconds ago. What's wrong?"
"Oh, uh, nothing. Good to hear, sleep well or something, bye!"
And with that the door closed.
Jon stood up and walked to his desk, picked up the rock and moved it between his hands. He felt like it was a bit bigger before and feared Zoe might have replaced his stone with a usual one.
"I wish there was a glass filled with water standing here", he whispered to the stone and out of thin air a glass filled with water materialized before him.
He let out a heavy sigh, put the stone back and took a sip. It did taste as if he got it from the sink. He put the glass back down, turned the light back off that Zoe had turned on in her weird move and then he walked to his bed and let himself fall back onto it.
"It's that stone or rock or whatever you might call it." Athena said.
"I noticed he looked at his desk for a second there and was wondering why he had some weird stone on his desk. What is it?" Zoe asked.
"I don't understand it, really. It's unlikely that the weird magic user gifted that thing to Jon. Jon clearly looked at it so he already knows what it is, but Jon was clearly deep asleep so no chance he talked to that guy or something."
"What do you mean? So there was a guy breaking into Jons room, falling back out of the window and then teleporting away without doing anything?" Zoe wondered
"Unlikely. Maybe there were multiple magic items in Jons possession, and he just got the one he wanted."
"Why would Jon have something like that" Zoe asked.
"Maybe he just found it, for some reason it's always people without magic to find magic items. We are lucky to have found it, we have to take it from him." Athena said in a determined tone.
"I definitely want to check it out now." Zoe replied
They waited for half an hour before starting another attempt to enter Jons room. Zoe slowly opened the door and saw Jon was asleep, she knew how deep he must be sleeping, as she tended to blast her music even late at night. Maybe he stuffed his ears or something. As long as she wouldn't barge into his room like before turning on his lights and shouting around, she was save. She silently sneaked to his desk, grabbed the stone and returned to the door where Athena waited. Both of them quickly disappeared back into Zoes room.
"That thing definitely is magic, and it's strong magic." Athena said with her eyes wide open.
"It always amazes me, that I know an actual witch!" Zoe commented looking at Athena with an expression of pure admiration.
"Well, witch might take it too far. I can mostly only detect magic, not use it myself, at least not by myself as my demonstration last month proved."
"Still amazing" Zoe smiled.
Athena let out a sigh and turned her focus to the stone.
"Remember how that guy before uttered a wish before he disappeared. I wonder if it is the same thing here."
"You mean, similar to a djinn? But that would mean Jon had two stones like that before." Zoe said with a frown.
"I will take it with me and look it up in some of mothers books. We actually have some books about magic artifacts in our school library as well."
"What, why do we have books like that in our library?"
"Well... mother wasn't the only witch around here back in the days, so there are some books that most likely comes from their circle."
"Why don't we just test it?" Zoe asked reaching for the stone.
Athena smacked Zoes hand away, "Stop! It's dangerous. Something came to my mind just now... maybe that guy from before knew of Jons wishing stone, stole it and replaced it with this one. So this little thing might actually do some nasty things to its user."
