Athena awoke in her hospital bed and above her, standing guard was a ghost. She had never seen a ghost before, just the chill in the air we all feel at odd points in the room that we all feel when we pass through them. This was an old woman, yellow haired, dead, and waiting patiently above her, not noticing her, not reacting to anything, a dead sentinel. Athena thought of disturbing it, of asking it's name, of trying to touch it, but something in her told her to leave it be, to let her do her job. She rolled off the bed to avoid touching the apparition, and when she turned around it was gone, as if it was never their at all.
Zoe entered the room, looking happy, this was an old look for Zoe as she was a goth and goths are not made for warm loving smiles, but had one on her face as she saw that finally her friend had awoken.
"How long was I out?"
"Three days, you had some sort of seizure or something, do you remember?"
"Not...yeah, maybe...no." Athena lied, she remembered but didn't want to say what she had experienced.
"Well it's good to have you back. You kept mumbling in your sleep, so they didn't think it was a comma."
"What about?' Athena asked. Her sense of the room was different, everything felt off, as if there was static in the room.
"Who could say, it was all non sense. You really had us worried though."
Athena stared at Zoe as if she could see right through her, passed her and in her. And what she saw was her friend, and a girl, same as you would see. But her brain told her more was their. This freaked out Zoe who said "I should probably get the nurse"
That was the end of anything strange for the day, the rest of the day was full of tests and doctors and fussing and happy parents and hospital food which was surprisingly good and staying overnight for observation, and then home.
Nothing new happened for the next week, until she returned to school. Until she encountered Sarah.
