Karyn entered the bathroom and found Buffy leaning against the wall, taking deep breaths. "What happened?" She asked.
"He...he's...he's driving me crazy!" She screamed. It was rather uncharacteristic of her.
"Who?"
"Jay..." she insisted. "Last night, his girlfriend walked off, and he started asking me if I liked football. And...we have nothing in common, but he showed up this morning and...Last night, he said I could look a lot hotter if I changed my look."
Karyn frowned. "And?"
Buffy blushed. "It is sort of flattering, but...he just makes me uncomfortable. I even had this crazy dream last night, where..." it was still a bit fuzzy. "I...it's just that my mom is always saying the same things people like Kyla say about me...she was pretty and popular in school and..."
Karyn nodded. "I...get the same stuff for being a bit of a tomboy. I mean...I'm a girl. Just not the same type as Kyla. If you want to change, Buffy, that's your decision, not anyone else's. And if Jay is..." she couldn't believe it herself, "interested in you and you aren't, then keep telling him till he gets the message. You have to be your own person, right?"
Buffy nodded. It was what she was thinking anyway, but she was not good at...confrontations. It was good to talk with Karyn about it.
Karyn wasn't sure what a bully like Jay wanted with Buffy. It didn't seem in character for him to pursue her. Either he was planning on humiliating Buffy as some sort of joke, or something else was playing out. She didn't think he was clever enough to use Buffy to make Kyla jealous. That seemed more like a Kyla tactic to her.
Meanwhile, in the hall, Jon turned and spotted...Kyla Leeson? walking down the hall, fuming. She was dressed more provocatively than he'd ever seen her, and where did that figure come from?
This was certainly interesting.
