"So, who were you meeting here?" Mel asked Kyla. He wanted to get a conversation started.
"My girlfriends," she said. "But I guess they left," she said, trying to successfully flirt gag with a former girl and her former best friend.
"Molly, where have you been...I was so worried," her mother said as she went through the door.
She started to respond, then frowned. "I...was on my way home, and then..I was in the mall, and I don't remember going there."
