Nadine kept going until she made it to her friend's house. Maybe now she could figure out what the fuck was wrong with her friend.
She didn't notice...or at least question the subtle change in the neighborhood as she walked. The Cloud could only do so much at a time and it was only active at night. And though it was within walking distance of her place, Nadine stopped in front of a fairly average looking house.
Meanwhile, Tina was being ushered into an office. Sitting at the desk was a man she'd never seen before...perhaps thankfully, as she'd had enough freaky moments today. He looked at her expectantly. "What do you have to say for yourself?" He demanded sternly.
"Umm..." Tina said, uncertain of where to start.
"These people are willing to have you around. Do you think many families want to take in a kid with a history of petty theft? Instead, you run off and...for what? You lift food at a bodega? Jesus, Chrissy...You have a choice. Do you this to work? Because you have a choice. Make it work with your new foster parents, or go to Juevenile Hall. And you're a bright kid, I hate to see that happen to you."
Tina's mind reeled. Petty theft...foster parents...jail She looked at the man. He wouldn't believe her...that she wasn't this person he thought she was. Her own mother wouldn't recognize her right now. She needed to play along until she could figure this out. "I'll behave..."
"Good. Because once these people have given up on you...you won't get any help from me either, and I'm the only friend you've got."
"Thank you, sir," she said.
He looked at her, and frowned. Apparently, that didn't sound like Chrissy. But Tina didn't have any idea what Chrissy did sound like. "I'm glad you are trying to behave. Sit outside till they come and get you. And I don't want to hear you've been giving any of the officers outside a hard time. I know you have a big mouth. Keep it shut."
