Once they got to the police station, Tina was escorted inside and made to sit down next to one of the desks. The officer sat down in front of that same desk, then began to type something into his computer.
Tina looked around. She had never been at the police station before (there was no reason for her to be there), so she couldn't tell if anything was different or not. But one person's name caught her attention.
"Captain Vaughn? Can I talk to you?" a voice on the other side of the room said.
Vaughn. She remembered her mother complaining about a man named Vaughn. He was a seedy man who owned a strip club on the outskirts of town. Her mom was part of a group called The Concerned Women's Society (CWS, for short). She remembered her mom telling her that she and the other members of that group had been protesting outside the club owned by a man named Larry Vaughn. If things were different ... that couldn't be the same Vaughn, could it?
"Uh ... I know this will sound strange, but do you know if your captain's first name is ..."
"Keep quiet," the cop said. "You're in enough trouble already."
Tina did as he said. But she still wanted to know if the police captain was the same man from the club.
Nadine kept going until she made it to her friend's house. Maybe now she could figure out what the fuck was wrong with her friend.
