After he composed himself, he went for the stone. "I wish Zoe was here." The stone flashed, very subtly, but nothing happened.
He ran down the street to Karyn's house. After her mother let him in, he sat down at the breakfast table next to her. "I have a problem," he said. "My sister is missing."
Karyn looked at him. "You don't have a..." it took her a moment. She lowered her voice. "You...had a sister and you wished her away?"
"No...it just...happened." He told her about the accidental wish.
"Did you try wishing her back?"
"Of course I did," he said, a bit testily.
"Jon...I know you were thinking that maybe you should lock it up...and I didn't agree, but..." she cursed, "erasing a person from existence....that's like murder. You have to get rid of it...after you try to get this fixed."
The two of them headed to school, and Jon entertained some sort of odd notion that Zoe would pop up at any moment. He kept watching her friends Athena and Zelda, to the point that they began to notice, but...
