Aside from the change in clothing styles, it looked pretty much the same as he remembered it. School was school, he supposed.
He turned a corner and, distracted, nearly bumped into a woman. Her hair was in a tight bun, and she wore a pair of glasses and a green dress. Jon thought she was actually quite attractive, although she seemed to be dressing down.
"I'm sorry, we didn't see you," Linda said.
"That's quite all right," the thirty-something woman said. She smiled. "This is my first day. I'm the new librarian."
"The new one? What about Mrs. Cochrane?" Linda said.
"She's retiring, the poor dear..." the woman said. "Her eyesight is going. I'm Rosemary...umm...Miss McKay," she said. "I just got my degree. I'm not used to being an authority figure, I suppose."
Jon squinted at her. It can't be...Is that Mrs. Finch? He had a hard time imagining this sweet woman turning into sour old Mrs. Finch.
"I'm Linda Doyle," his mother said. "And that's Jenny Pierce."
