Jon didn't understand what was going on, or how his wish had changed the world so radically, but it was still very weird.
It wasn't just the clothes, it was the attitudes he didn't understand. The way Karyn had acted...he'd never told Karyn she should act any differently when she was a tomboy. Not only had gender roles apparently changed, but the girls seemed a bit...more aggressive than he remembered the boys being. Karyn was what passed for average around here and he was the atypical one.
"Hey, Jon," a familiar voice said, sliding in next to him. It was Tim Brant. "Did you hear the news?"
"What?"
"Well, Pete told me he spotted Sarah McMillan and her boyfriend this morning, and there is definitely trouble in paradise." Pete Roberts was another one of their friends. "He thinks they are going to break up."
"Why does Pete care?"
"I think he's hoping Sarah might ask him out. I mean, who wouldn't want to go out with the Captain of the Football Team? I mean, someday she has to stop dating braindead cheerleaders like Biff Meadows, right?"
"Yeah, right," Jon said.
"I mean, you're just as hot as Biff...you just don't really show it off."
"Yeah, yeah, I know, tomgirl," Jon said, getting a bit tired of that term.
"Come on, Jon, I know you wish you got as much attention as boys like Biff. I mean, not the sort of attention Steve Farber gets, that slut, but..."
Jon felt extremely overwhelmed all of the sudden. "Tim...what if I told you that something was very wrong...that the whole world was backward today?"
"I'd say I've felt like that sometimes," Tim said, confused. "Are you sick? Do you want to go see the school nurse?"
