"A tomgirl." Karyn looked down at her digital watch. "Jon, maybe we could talk about this later. We only have eight minutes to get to school. I hope you can keep up with me." Then suddenly, she took off running in the direction of the school.

"Karyn, wait up!" Jon yelled, then ran after her. He found he couldn't move as fast as she did. It wasn't that he was in bad condition, she just seemed to now be in better condition.

They still both got there in time, although Jon had to lean against a wall when he did to catch his breath. Karyn looked at him, sympathetically, although she did keep checking her watch. "I have to get to class," she said. "I'll see you later."

They didn't have the same first class, but they would see each other later in the day. It wasn't until he got into his first class and slid into his seat that he really had time to take things in.

He kept reminding himself that whatever had changed the way genders were, it would have other effects that might not be obvious. Like his mom being a lawyer. He guessed if his dad had been the one who stayed home and raised them, she might have had time to go to law school.

He looked around. He spotted Melissa Smith. Melissa was known as the fashion queen of the school. She was obsessed with her clothes, and her appearance in general. But not anymore. This Melissa had short red hair, wore no makeup, and wearing comfortable looking jeans and a t-shirt with a sports team logo on it.

In the front of the room, talking to the teacher, was Jay Duncan, who had long hair tucked into a pony tail. He'd always been a bit lanky, but his features seemed to have softened a bit. He wasn't wearing makeup, but he was wearing...a skirt? Or maybe it was a kilt. It was plaid, and was paired with long socks, as opposed to stocking.

He went around the room. It was the first time he'd seen any of the hottest girls in the class not only without makeup, but wearing loose and comfortable looking clothing instead of tight-fitting clothing, which covered up generally more muscular looking bodies.

The boys were the opposite. Most of them were made up at various levels, some subtly, some very obviously. They put a lot more effort into their appearance than he was used to.

He tried to look for more subtle clues, and noticed people were sitting in different seats. People chose their seats in this class. Jay was in the front, as usual, Jon was in the middle of the classroom. He tried to wrap his mind around what it might mean.
