Karyn approached Jon just outside his house. "Hey, Jon-boy. Ready to go?"
"Karyn ... uh ..." Jon said. "Do you notice anything different about me today?"
Karyn looked him up and down, trying to come up with an answer. "You cut your hair?"
Jon reached up touched his head and was surprised when he felt that his hair was longer. It was almost down to his shoulders. Was it supposed to be longer than that in this new reality? "No, I didn't get a haircut, Karyn."
"Then I don't know," she said.
Jon was about to say something about his vague wish that he made, but before he did, he noticed that something was different about Karyn. "You're different," Jon said.
Karyn looked down at herself. "Huh? In what way?"
"Well first of all, your hair is short. And your body is more ... toned."
"Jon, I'm always like that. But since your on that topic, I don't think you should be trying to be like me so much."
"Huh?"
"Well, I mean, the shorter hair, the more toned body. People are going to think that your gay or something. I mean, I know that you're a tomgirl, but people who don't know you so well ..."
"Excuse me? What did you call me?" Jon asked, interrupting her.
"A tomgirl." Karyn looked down at her digital watch. "Jon, maybe we could talk about this later. We only have eight minutes to get to school. I hope you can keep up with me." Then suddenly, she took off running in the direction of the school.
"Karyn, wait up!" Jon yelled, then ran after her.
