Life continued for the transformed, and those of Jon's circle of friends.
A lot of things changed, even with just five years.
Jonni was a slug-girl. Her lower body was composed of a slimey, rather weird 'foot' that left a trail of mucas where she walked. She also had a set of antenna on her head. Her upper body was of a fairly average though by no means unattractive woman. It was not 'quite' as awkward as it sounded, and she had years now to get used to it. It was certainly not any stranger then what anyone else had transformed into. It had not always been so, having started life like all of her generation as a human- a male human at that named Jon.
It was also Jon who caused the sun to change... by wishing something interesting would happen. Her vague and widespread wish caused the sun and everyones lives to change... and it could not be undone. All she could do was wish something else, once the stone was charged up. So she wished for only those who were 'better off' to be changed... hoping that the stone could be a neutral judge of what 'better' was.
It made things better... but there were still a lot of issues.
Jon was now married, and expecting her second child. She was still getting used to being a mother, and her new job... but she couldn't be happier. She still retained a lot of contact with Karyn, and all in all... things were quite normal. Always Jonni would keep an ear though, for a further sign from her grandfather. His last letter had just one question. What would be her next trick? She feared her grandfather would have come down on her like a ton of bricks were he still around... given all the transformations... but that he was actually proud of her in some way of the things done was a reaction she could not have considered nor even understand- but she welcomed it all the same.
She had kept the stone hidden away, not really sure what to do with it now that the world had 'settled' on the impact of her last wishes. Every time the stars were in alignment, and she could do her 'one' worldly wish, she would wonder just what could she do to help things?
But... her family.
It was the same for everyone else. Life just went on, it had to. People had already settled into their lives, and anything Jonni did at this point could only cause more harm.
As the de-facto leader of the magic circle, Jonni now held certain 'responsibilities.' The magic circle realised that people had to be helped one person... one situation at a time. There could be no further massive changes... even if it technically 'could' be done, with the charged up stone it was something Jonni had grave reluctance to attempt.
Jonni looked up at the night sky wondering... something was different. She didn't know what but she could sense something was.. odd.
Then the phone rang. She picked up the phone to hear a very distressed voice. "A star? What? Um- I'll have a look."
