Anneza looked at the distant rainbow sun...
it was so far away, just one star among many.. the biggest certainly, but this was the transition point... the orbit between the dwarf-planet, Pluto, and it's moon Charon. She stood in between the two relatively small bodies, as they danced between her...
Pluto was of course, named after the god of the underworld, also known as Hades. It made... sense she should come here. She felt a little wary as if... someone was watching her. Anneza was perhaps the first person in a long time to have experienced a death and returned to tell the story... she was not in any middle point between life and death...
...she had 'actually' died...
but magic undid that. She was allowed to live, from the sacrifice of a small child... Anneza wasn't sure if she would have done the same. If she would have sacrificed all her money, let alone something like the gift of magic, to save a stranger... for nothing in return.
'You gave your life for the children, Anneza... that should be enough.'
Anneza blinked as she stared at the strange song of Pluto. The sounds turning into words for her to hear. "I.. shouldn't be alive though..."
'You opened the door between life and death in this world... it was closed for a reason in your previous age... things are not as they once were... The consequences of this will be dealt with, as they always have been.'
Anneza flirted closer to the orbit of Pluto, angling herself carefully as she used her strange light-speed locomotion. This was tricky due to Pluto's relatively small gravity between it and the moon... but she found herself on the surface of Pluto, floating upon the rocky body. She was cautious to make sure she still knew which star was the Earth's... even rainbow coloured, it was no longer so obvious. "I don't know if I deserve to be alive. Just because I wanted to live, doesn't mean I deserve it. Many people want to live... why should I be any exception to have my desire become reality?"
'Please do not argue with the god of the underworld, Anneza,' said the voice sternly- though not unkindly. 'There is a price for all things... by accepting this life, you may find it very difficult to return to your previous state... you are now, as you will always be...'
Anneza... looked a bit sadly but nodded. She suspected that would be a price. "When.. will be be my time?" she asked quietly.
'...you will be claimed, when the sun burns out. I will see you at that point... and take you on your last journey. Continue your life Anneza... live... learn... but most of all, try to find happiness.'
The space girl looked a bit grimly. So... this really was her new life? Was she... really able... could she do this?
'You were willing to die Anneza... you have shown, you are willing to live... otherwise you would not be here.'
"But what can I do when nobody understands my words? I feel so alone... you're the only one that has even spoken to me! You and.. the Enemy. It isn't fair that I lost that in my transformation! All I do is 'babel' to them. Please... let me speak their language again. Let me be part of their world again!"
'Anneza... you are doing more then just 'babbling' Your language grants concepts and understanding of reality that English does not allow for. Concepts that your world will need in this new age...'
"But I'm so lonely! Please... I beg you..."
The planet Pluto glowed subtly. 'I will ask one of the gods to grant you a boon Anneza... you will be able to re-learn language as a gifted child... indeed, all your race will have this ability if they should spring from you now... be patient.'
Anneza looked humbly as she quietly fluttered back, jumping back to the Earth. The journey from here would take her at least... 5 hours or so. Pluto was quite a distant world after all. She was starting to get the hang of moving from body to body... She wasn't sure what she should do in her life
...only that she must now live it...
