Lilly was surprised to hear the door bell to her house ring... she opened the door... and Jenny was there.
Jenny looked at her strangely... then reached out and hugged the animal girl.
Lilly gasped a little surprised feeling the closeness to another girl like this. It felt- weird but nice- certainly not something boys had generally done and it put her off a little, yet was a welcoming experience. "I-It's okay..." she said quietly realising she needed some support.
The white haired girl looked upset. "N-No it wasn't. I couldn't be everywhere at once an' an' someone nearly died. You- you saved her an' sacrificed your magic. I'm sorry. Are... are you angry with me? Cause... cause of that? Cause you had to lose your magic cause of me?"
The squirrel girl looked at her surprised. Is that what she thought? "I... I did it 'cause you would have done it. 'cause... you're the most selfless person I know... an'... I wish I could... be like that," said Lilly seeing... seeing exactly that. In front of her was the person she saw and knew. She smiled a little realising it was true.
"You really think I'm like that?" asked Jenny tilting her head.
"I... I know you are," said Lilly. "I know I don't have much magic no more Like Artemis... but... we're friends. An'... I'm gonna stay with you. If... if you let me?"
Jenny stared at Lilly and hugged her once more. "I... I want you to stay. I dunno what will happen to the other magic girls... but I think... I'm gonna need you a lot" said Jenny with a smile. "Tetra... said some weird things."
"W-what did Tetra say?" asked Lilly tensing a bit. She remembered what happened...
"She said... you're... special. You broke some kind of magic girl rule? An' Artemis said that a goddess calls you her daughter. is- is that true?"
Lilly glanced down at herself. "Jus'... jus' in spirit," said the squirrel girl remembering that proviso. "I mean... I don't even look human... no more. So I can't 'really' be her daughter. It's just a sorta.. title I guess?"
Jenny looked her curiously. "Maybe that doesn't matter? Maybe gods don't see your body so much... they might jus' see spirit? An' if you are her daughter in spirit.. then that's gotta mean you're her daughter for real right?" asked Jenny.
"I... never thought of it that way," thought Lilly. It did make some sense though. "But I don't feel any different from it."
"Artemis says that the two of you might change over time... an'... being Venus's daughter might be really hard." Jenny said in concern. "It might be even harder then... bein' a magic girl."
Lilly thought a bit about it. "Well... I dunno. I havn't seen any bad parts of it yet. I only met her three times... always when I was lost. But also... always when I was lost, lookin' for you," she said thinking. "An' the third time... an' last time I found you... I really found you," Lilly explained.
"W-what do you mean?"
Lilly looked her over, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder. "Jus'... remember. We're friends okay? No matter what." She stared into her.
"No... matter what?" asked Jenny a little tensely.
Lilly nodded. "No matter what."
Jenny stared at Lilly a long while. The magic girl wasn't sure at all what lay behind those shimmering almond shaped eyes.. but she felt happy. Just.. so happy, as if some terrible burden was lifted. She wasn't sure how the animal girl did that... Looking at her though, she did realise one thing.
"Lilly? I think- I want to be like you," Said Jenny sincerely.
