Anneza took out her small camcorder.
It was quite a recent purchase, though she couldn't remember why she bought it. What worried her more, was if she could understand how to use the thing still. A single red button must be 'record'. She pressed it, and the red light on the window came on. At least it was working.
'Testing,' she said into it, in her alien language.
She then stopped the recording, and pressed a few buttons. Finding the play button was harder, especially as the whole thing ran on a memory card. An older one she might have understood quicker by sound of a tape. She must be the first alien to ever hate advanced technology. Still after a little while, she had worked out the combination of buttons.
She ran a few more test, and reasoned she now had enough know-how to record things or herself.
It felt odd to watch someone who was supposedly her... on the little monitor. It just didn't feel like it could be her own body. But she was more surprised, to hear words she could understand from it. It... made her smile.
'Hi,' she recorded then rewound the memory file, looking into the view-screen.
'Hello,' she repeated again then pressed play. 'Hi' said the recording in a surreal neutral tone.
Anneza smiled grinning. 'how are you?' she recorded, then played back once more.
'Hi' said the strange space girl in the recording. Her shimmering eyes locked onto Anneza. 'How are you?' she asked, her antenna's flopping slightly to the side. It looked rather cute.
Anenza smiled a little wiping a tear. 'Coping, just...coping.' she said back. 'Nice for someone to ask'.
At this point she looked at the newspaper her mother was insisting to look. Something was circled... oh! That must be a job advert... she didn't recognise the words, but she did recognise the symbol. That was a media company, one of her old rivals.
Could... should she work for them?
She tried to think on her old loyalties, but realised she didn't have that any more. If her mother circled this job, she must have felt she could probably do the one they offered. It was also in an area she knew of... maybe? She cut off the page, wondering if this could really be her way back? It would probably mean starting from the bottom.
Still she also wanted to make a few more recordings first, in case they wanted to see something of her skills. She set the video recorder on the table. As she introduced herself. 'Hi, my name is Anneza,' she said thinking a bit. It's strange... she had rarely been in front of a camera, despite... well... a long time ago she used to be. But she suddenly felt nervous, even if she had no audience as yet.
'I... am new to being what I am. I wish I can tell you all the things I've seen. Out there, in the emptiness of space.' she sighed a bit. 'I don't feel hot, or cold in the great void. There is no wind on my skin when I fly. It's sometimes hard to know if I am flying at all, when I'm away from this planet.'
She brushed her green hair absently.
'I would love to show you outer space, but I don't think my camera would survive. So, I'll do a few video's of outside. After that, I guess I'll try this new job...'
Anneza smiled. It was small but... this would at least be a little fun. 'Okay.. so.. this is my road. And.. that up there, is the new dark moon. I don't know much about it though, sorry. I can't really go there either. It's a bit strange. I can go anywhere else on the space-ways, but that one has no road.'
She looked up warily, wondering when others will comment on it. This show was going to be a bit of a documentary, or diary? No, she didn't want to put too much personal stuff here. Just in case. (though realising she could... she might make some personal logs)
Even if nobody could understand her this might show her ability in cinematography at least? Though she could no longer use computers... at least not without some significant re-learning. It might take a while, before she had anything to show potential employers. (Damn it that alone was... urgh... but she was a young girl, would anyone take her seriously again?)
'So... let's have a look at my favourite places, and how they have changed. Just consider me an alien visitor to your interesting world.'
She was an alien visitor... alien to the world, alien to herself.. alien to those around her.
