Morgan's parents woke, surprised to find their child slumbering with them in the bed. Did the girl have a nightmare? Her father wouldn't be too surprised if that was the case, given her interest in the... occult. Sure they didn't mind her expressing an interest in various cultures, but the child had pretty much taken resident in the basement, and bought all kinds of things on the internet- none of which was expensive mind, nor did it seem to have any particular significance or interest outside of being an item from a tourist trap at best.

Morgan's father sighed, as he rose up, letting the child sleep on his side of the bed. He tucked her in gently. He decided to make some breakfast, a fried egg with some bacon. He still could not get used to the night life like so many others in the 'human-side' of the world as it was slowly starting to become. "human side," he thought rolling his eyes. The changed probably didn't know how easy they had it sometimes. The human side was bereft of light, and they were always on ticking schedule by the rising of the sun.

"Hey sweety," said his wife wearing a bathrobe. "Mind if I go take a shower first?" She knew her husband normally got up first and did all his grooming. In particular the rather nice black beard he wore with a sense of pride.

Morgan's father smiled. "Not at all dear," he replied with a somewhat strong English accent. He had been living in America for about ten years or so, and was starting to find his tongue becoming rather 'American'. He still had to remember though that the tap was a 'faucit'. It was a lot of little things really. His thoughts drifted back to his daughter. "... is Morgan okay?"

His wife glanced back to their bedroom. "I don't know. I think... maybe it stems from being disappointed, not to have changed much in the sunlight. She really wanted to be something special."

"She is special though!" Said her father annoyed. "She doesn't have to be part animal, or some other weird creature to be special. Why in the world would she expose herself on purpose like that?" It still angered him that his daughter would take such... such a risk. Then the way she simply came back after opening the front door, looked herself over... with the most heart breaking, sad eyes he had ever seen his little girl have. He was livid and demanded to know what she was playing at. Morgan simply replied...

'... this is all I am'.

Morgan didn't cry... she never seemed to cry, even when she got hurt. That was probably the closest he had ever seen her to some kind of breakdown though. It was as if the child had evaluated her entire potential, on sunlight exposure... and all she found at the end, was a human being. A simple, ordinary human- even if it had strangely coloured hair.

"Things have improved though in the last week," thought her mother curiously. "I hear she's making friends now." That... was actually very encouraging. Morgan never had any friends before. She was a child that kept to herself, all the time. A solitary loner, but always looking and staring at people as if she was seeing into the depths of their soul. She spoke only when it seemed required, and it was hard to get inside her mind.

Morgan's father cut the fat out of the bacon, as he placed his dinner down. "I blame this occult stuff," he said in the end. "I think we allowed it to go on too far. It's... not healthy."

"It's what she likes though dear. It's her hobby- even if its a strange one, I'm glad she does something. Ever since she found that Roman coin when she was only six years old in the garden- we still don't even know how it got there." Her mother encouraged her to look at history, and had helped her acquire the artefacts that interested her. The charity shops, garage sales, even a passer by who might have a strange button on his jacket. Every time Morgan would find the 'one' item she wanted... and it would be stored, in the basement. An assortment of cheap, tacky, though strangely, very curious items.

"How did we get such a strange daughter?" Asked Morgan's father in the end.

"I'm not sure," thought her mother. "But now that you mention it... it does feel strange. It's like we've always had her," she said smiling. "I just know I'm her mother." That was really the end of it. She was her mother, she did all that she could for her.

Morgan's father thought a bit more. Things like this did feel a bit strange and fuzzy, now that he thought about it. Not in a bad way though, just... it felt like there was something else he should know, but never did. Indeed when Morgan was not around he felt... strangely out of place.

"I'll go take my shower dear. See you later."

Morgan's father nodded.
