Jenny and Artemis continued their rise, past clouds of every colour, past the blackness of space, and even beyond all that could be imagined, and yet further still. Artemis was starting to get really worried. This... this was impossible. Completely and utterly impossible. Even the magic her mother described to her could not possibly do this. They were going beyond... beyond all.
she looked up and saw... two girls flying down towards them! She slowed down just in time and blinked in confusion, as the two new ones also did the same. It was- them? Not time travel! (her mother would kill her if they did that. But no, actually they seemed to be just mimicking them identically.
"It's some kind of reflection" said Jenny in confusion.
"It's some kind of reflection." said the other Jenny in confusion at exactly the same time.
Jenny looked oddly at her double as it looked oddly back. This wasn't just a reflection. The two girls reached out to their doubles, and there was a palpable sense of relief that the other could feel some kind of cosmic membrane. It was... eerie. More then eerie, to see something like this as a ceiling above them, that had all of reality copied like this.
"What now?" Asked Jenny to Artemis.
"What now?" Asked Mirror-Jenny to Mirror-Artemis.
The two glanced at each other no less confused. This was starting to go from eerie to unsettling.
The two Artemis thought a bit. "Oh... I think I see," they said looking at each other. "Jenny, reach across the er- mirror like me."
The two pressed their palms on the membrane, just as their duplicates did. Artemis concentrated for a moment, picturing the moon as it reflected across water. Jenny felt a little strange for a moment, but it passed.
"Okay now we gotta go down." said the two Artemis.
"Down?" Asked Jenny confused even more. They were turning back?
"Down is up." nodded the moon girl
Jenny didn't really have time to argue it as they started their 'decent'.
Down they went, past the clouds, past everything all over again, but now everything was opposite.
Finally, after what felt like forever, they had arrived where they started. (although really, they could not be further away) Artemis gasped quietly, not quite able to believe it. The little squirrel seemed to be holding... something... but as Artemis's senses became stronger, she realised it wasn't some-thing... but someone.
"L-Lilly? What...?" For once Artemis was at a loss. She had imagined trying to get Lilly to tell them about the magic she had found, but this was unexpected.
The squirrel girl smiled serenely and showed the strange light in her hand. It was female, that was obvious despite the lack of any physical indications to it... but beyond that, it was like it could be anything. If Jenny just used her eyes, she would have thought she was seeing the 'Enemy'... but no, this was not the Enemy. Far from it. It was trying to 'become', to be, while all the enemy would do is try to return to nothing. She knew exactly who she was looking at, and couldn't believe her eyes.
The magic girl approached timidly. "C-Can I hold her?" She asked hopefully.
"Uh huh," said Lilly to her friend. "She- she called me here an asked me stuff an' I was tryin' to help. She's askin' why she's here- but I dunno."
"Who is it?" asked Artemis.
"My new baby sister," said Lilly happily. "S-she aint born yet though. She ain't got a name either."
The strange ball of energy felt itself in an unfamiliar hands, and started to shake a little expressing distress. Jenny tried to comfort it. "Oh- no please don't be upset er- I'm a friend see?"
Artemis smiled and tried to reach out to the strange energy. The moon girl was able to calm the strange potential energy ball easily. She then looked at the squirrel girl. "You're gonna have a strong bond with her you know. Not many- well- this doesn't happen very often." She wondered if Lilly would even remember coming here? It was possible that the family bond gave the child the power to be here.... but somehow, she knew it had to be more.
Lilly felt herself blush at something. "She- she says she likes my soft fur," she said. "She wants to know if she will have that too- but I keep tellin' her I dunno."
"What kind of things have you told her?" asked Artemis curious. What could one tell a new life in this stage?
"Jus' that I- um- I am her b-big sister (Lilly blushed even brighter under her fur saying this) an' I'll help her no matter what."
