I looked at Phirlax. "I told you that Fire was the only good choice for a real demon. Thalox knows what he is doing. You want to be a shitty Metal demon." he said. "That's just stupid!" Thalox said with a cruel laugh. The 2 of them were able to bond on that decision for most of the journey. I was able to talk to Dulgron. He had a feminine looking face and was pretty much the punching bad and stress relief for Thalox. When we were making camp, he would drag Dulgron to their tent. He would have no real choice but to obey. I could sometimes hear sexual noise coming from their tent. It did not look like the submissive demon was into it. I wondered if I could get him in my party. At the very least, it would be better to put a rift between them. There were bandits and mercenaries on the roads, but we were able to navigate around them. There were a few skirmishes, but we were able to make it back to our village. When we made it back, the village treated us like heroes. The village shaman gathered all of us together and told us that we needed to gather supplies need for the ritual. That was fine with me.

My list of needed items included 3 tiers for the success rate of the ritual. Ingredients for a low tier ritual were simply a clear dirt field for drawing a pentagram with a finger, chicken blood as a sacrifice and 1 gram of the element. I could do that right now. It only had a 25% chance of working. For a standard ritual you needed chalk to draw a circle, your own blood for the sacrifice and 5 grams of the element. It gave as 50% chance. A high tier ritual could not fail. It required diamond dust for the circle, a freshly killed human for the sacrifice and 25 grams of the element. That was beyond me. Appealing to the Archdevils were a possibility to boost the chance of a ritual. They liked a bit of pandering and granted boons to the ritual. For example, Mammon the Archdevil of Greed, would give a boost 10% for every 1000 gold coins. An orgy would grant the same boost from Asmodeus. I had enough money to buy the materials for a standard ritual at the market. There was no way we were going to find any humans this far into the Demon Kingdom. I asked Dulgron, Phirlax and Helelin to come with me. They agreed.

Now that they were with me, we made our way to the nearest market. It was a few days journey from the village. We took our weapons with us and Dulgron had his club with him. He could probably by a weapon when we cot to the city. Dulgron was a bit awkward without Thalox. He was quiet and jumped to do any minor task that might have been needed. It stimulated Phirlax's ego and need for dominance. Helein held disdain for him being weak willed and with a "pretty face". I just pitied him. When the first night came he was surprised that no one entered his tent throughout the night. That seemed to make him more curious about us. I just made sure to be polite an ensure the submissive Dulgron was treated well. In the city, we each bought our supplies and had some money to spend in a tavern. Dulgron bought himself a pair of kukri blades. Phirlax chose the venue, so I was not surprised when the tavern was connected to a brothel. They spent time with the ladies there while I staid listening to the bard. When they came back, they looked at me with sated and happy faces. That was fine.

On our way back, I had the idea that we should all do our rituals together. They seemed receptive to the idea. We still had to wait until we got back to the village elder so that he could take us to the ritual grounds. Thalox was waiting for us outside the village. He looked at Dulgron. "Hey. Give me your materials. I want to have the best chance for the ritual this time." he said. "So you already tried once and failed then." she said, picking up on his words and posture. He snarled at us. "Stay out of it! He's mine!" he snapped. Dulgron looked from him to us. "I... bought this using my own money. Why... can't you and buy some?" he tried to reason. "Huh!?" Thalox snapped, making him flinch. "Why should I waste my time and money on that when I have you? You never asked me to come with." he continued. That was totally unreasonable. I had to step in. "You also didn't ask us to wait and try doing the low ritual with you. Let him try it the way he prepared for." I said. Thalox took a step towards me, but Phirlax and Helelin intercepted him. "Try it your way. I'll remember this." he said before leaving.
