A blast took out the others. There were 6 of the enemy cyborgs. They each had a plasma rifle, a magnum pistol and a wicked looking futuristic glaive. One of them even seemed to have a grenade launcher as well from all of the explosions going on. Luckily, none of them were in X-frames. The situation would have been unwinnable if that was the case. I had to give them a very brief explanation of who the enemy was. "They are shooting very small and fast projectiles from their weapons. You need to just charge and dodge if you see them aim one at you." I told them. They nodded. We drew our weapons and we charged one of the cyborgs. It took all 6 of us boxing her in to even have a chance. She went from shooting at us to using her glaive. She was going around looking for the openings in our defenses. "Tighten up the box. Prioritize our defense." I ordered. I got a chorus of "Yes, sir!" from them. We parried and countered attacked. When one of us got staggered by an attack, we closed in to prevent her from following it up with a surely devastating attack. It was very stressful and tough work.
Eventually, we were able to chip and hack at her until she died. It was a hard fought battle and all we got for it was another grenade barrage. I was at critical health. I had to heal myself. Several of my men went down and I had to res them to keep them in the fight as well. Since I maxed Holy Magic tree, I was able to cast it within seconds and get them back at full health. I did this while I was prone to keep out of the fray for a moment. When they got up, I healed myself as well. "You fucked up now!" I heard from Paul as I saw him shoot a magnum. Brett had a riffle and he was doing the same. They had a mixture of militiamen and monks in their parties. I picked up the rifle from the cyborg we just killed. I also began shooting at the remaining cyborgs. We broke them apart with our teamwork and a bit of the Devil magic. That was to say, they super buffed their guns and took away the need to reload them. When they were dead, I asked if there were any more survivors, there were sad shakes of the head. The slaughter was effective. There were only 21 of us left. Brom and two friends were still alive.
Shayne and Yola were among those that died. With a near decapitation of leadership, I was the only one that could still lead the group. The other Players did not look like they were going to respawn on the beach. "I guessed a respawn point was not prepared for us on the journey." Paul looked around with a shrug. If that was the case, they would end up back on Ether. "We can't stay here. We need to go somewhere. I'll tell you what my group learned while we were out." I led them into the city and the scrapyard. I was able to give them all a rundown on everything that we learned. Sir Oswin and Sir Dederick joined my party. They were more veteran paladins that had more than just luck on their side that let them survive long enough for me to get there. Brother Tommie and Brother Sampson along with Brom, Wido and Serlon of the once proud Nimbus Militia were with Brett. Sister Lisa and the archer Dame Avis were with Brother Ivette and spearman Sir Gavin in Paul's new party. Omnikid, Jamie, and Mikey were all with us as well. I pulled Paul and Brett aside. "We need a place to live."
I asked "Can you make a condo or something? It would be really helpful." They smiled and Paul said "Of course we can. We should try looking at a map to see where we can put one without anyone noticing." We looked around the boardwalk until we found one. We were in Neo-Rutten City. There was a town called Dwan about a couple hour's travel West from the city. That was the best place. It was close to the city, but far enough that the next group of settlers would not come bother us immediately. The thing was getting there. We did not have any horses. I looked around and said "You wouldn't be able to spawn a bus either, huh?" Brett placed his hands on the ground and a burst of red and black lightning burst from the area. There was a flash and the bus appeared. It looked pretty old fashioned for the setting. It was probably an asset from a different world. It did not matter to me as long as it had enough seats for the humans. There was more than enough. We ushered them all on the bus and Paul and Brett played rock paper scissors to see who would drive. Brett won. Paul cursed and got on.
