I could see that we were being treated as a heroic army as we made our way into the gates. I could not help but want to show off. Shayne was on my back. For the sake of appearances, we had to stick together for a bit. It did not matter to me. I could get rid of him at any time. Shayne, being a bandit at heart, was floored by the reception by the Likins. He was holding Yola to his chest. All we needed to do was go directly to the main keep at the most secure part of the settlement. That was where we could appoint a new king. Once we got there, all of the men we came here with began to cheer. A Likin blacksmith from our first town had made a basic golden band with six green, round ornaments sticking out from the top. It was to be the first crown of the new kingdom. There was no doubt in my mind that Sir Gifford should be the king. He was the military commander and he was nice enough of a guy. Father Conrad began the coronation ceremony right there. When he placed the crown on his head, the paladin known as Gifford rose as king. He named his kingdom Skigh. It was a unique name.

Gifford's first action as king was knighting all of the militia groups. It was promised to them by the late Archbishop Holger, so it was nice to see that the promise was kept after all. The paladins were made barons. I was pleased at the promotion. The noble titles were not tied to any land since there was so few of it. Yola was my only legitimate child since she came after getting married to Shayne. She was now a baronetess. Us new nobles took up our new homes in the noble district of the city. There was not enough room for everyone and so most of the militiamen ended up returning to the town or village they were previously stationed in. That was a good thing as we wanted them to continue to be defended. As the religion of the Church of the Sky spread, the Likin demanded to keep their cultural practice of Bonding and mating for pleasure regardless of their gender or number. Father Conrad was livid that they wanted to break from the heteronormative monogamous relationships endorsed by the teachings of the Church. I told him to let it go. "Culture is the one thing they want to revel in."

He thought about it. "I guess their oppression by the Igniso forces is a tool and a burden for us. I'll just have to make sure that our priests know to teach their young more about the proper way to love one another." he said with a huff. In that same vein, many of the former merchants and well to do residents of the city petitioned their king to establish a harem. Gifford was against it. "There should be no need to debase myself or my chaste devotion to my betrothed for a spectacle. Especially not with some of these submissive males without any pride that are begging to join me in my bed." he said. The village chief who was raised to become a duke and his now count children were the latest of many to mention the harem. Once again I had to step up. "This is another cultural expectation. In order for them to take our religion, we should be willing to bend for their culture in certain ways. Only take the ones less beautiful that your wife to be. This is also a great way to forge a bunch of key alliances." I said. He sighed deeply. I waited for his decision. He was put between a rock and a hard place for sure.

I smirked as I heard him say "Fine then. A royal Harem will be established. I will go look at them. I'll take two and send a letter to the King of Verdantis. There's no way he will refuse an alliance with us." That was great for the people in the city. He went around and chose a merchants daughter and a female baker. They were a 5 and 6 out of 10. It made the others scratch their heads in confusion. I asked if our queen would be coming over. "Yes. I've already called for her. She should be here in a few weeks or so." he said. The reply from the King was quick and affirmative. He sent a squad of knights to accompany his fourth son, Arenill. He was about my age and actually a true representation of pretty much everything Gifford disdained in a male. Pretty, clean, submissive and with a girly figure. Arenill was the one that the king sent to be his concubine. It was clever. It was only a fourth son so he did not matter politically. He was male and therefore would not be bearing any children that would have claims on the kingdom of Verdantis. Gifford knew this. "I will hold my nose and tongue on this." he said.
