Father Isaiah Jones asked what I was doing in the church. Daniel got up and bowed his head. "Father Jones, greetings! I was just going over the tenants of our faith. My coin purse was stolen by a thief and she got it back for me. She has been a sponge of information. Apparently, she just arrived in the city." The cleric scoffed. "Teaching a heathen our faith, and a centaur like that!? She is going to dirty the hallowed grounds of the church! Beasts of the fields should stay exactly there! Tell her to be gone." I stood up to my full height and approached him. He looked a bit nervous. "What is it!?" he demanded. "My name is Brianne Terri. Do you have any task I can do to prove that I really am not a bad person?" He looked over at Daniel. "Well, you're not really a person at all, now are you?" he grumbled quietly. Daniel took my side. "Please give her a chance. I am sure that you will not be disappointed with Brianne." The older cleric looked at him for a long moment. Sighing, he then turned to me. "Fine. Do not let me down. I was going to send Father Shalo, but you might do." he said. Daniel smiled warmly at me.
He said "A priest in Orido Village has been requesting that someone bring a new monstrance to the chapel over there. Now that you are here, I suppose you can provide security as Father Shalo travels there. You can not be too careful on the roads." "He is going to be safe. I will make sure he gets there and back quickly." I replied with a nod and smile. He just grunted and left to get the other priest. It took a minute before a nervous middle aged man came out. Father Jones had a large monstrance made out of gold and glass. It looked like a large, fluffy cloud and it was really pretty. It was put into a wooden case and handed to Father Shalo. I introduced myself to him. I was surprised at how nervous he was. He gave me a really strained smile. "...Hello, and thank you for this. Are you ready now, or will you need some time?" he said very demurely. I shook my head. "We should go as soon as possible. If the people in the village have been waiting this long, they might need it." I said. "Yes? I... suppose so." he responded. The quest was to escort him to Orido Village and back here. I could do that.
I had weapons and was certain that I could protect him from bandits if the road was not too crazy. He was obviously nervous about something. Maybe it was that he had never actually spoken to a demihuman before. I did have an imposing look to me with all of my piercings. It could also be the fact that we were on the roads as it was getting dark. Who knew whether bandits or monsters would appear before us. He was not even looking at me. I also had citizenship, so I would not have to worry about the corrupt guards getting to me when I returned. This was a mission for Father Jones. What Father Shalo actually thought of me was not as important. If I could get his trust in me and get more tasks as a result, that would get me closer to joining the church. We continued going down the street until we got to the city gate. When we both passed through, we were told that they did not open the gates during the night. That meant we would have to stay some time in the village. As we reached a fork in the road, we were hailed by a group. I could not tell what this was going, so I told him to climb on my back.
Bending down and waiting for him was a bit awkward, but he did get on my back without any difficulty. "Oh! Well... excuse me then." he said. By the time the group came to us, I was sure I could run with him on my back. It was indeed a group of three bandits. They gave us the standard shakedown and demanded we give them our goods or else. I refused and they went hostile. I was able to cut down one with my sword and the other I staggered with a kick with my hindlegs. Father Shalo yelped in alarm as he was not ready for that. I apologized and quickly turned to continue attacking the stunned bandit. I killed him with a strong strike with the greatsword that almost cut him in half. It was a got hit. The third bandit began to run. I drew my javelins as I trotted after him. I threw them and my starting specialty allowed the aim to be steadier than it should have been for my level. It took four to finally bring him down. I then picked them up from his corpse and took some loot for myself. About 50 lin and some good weapons I could use was my haul. After that, we were back on our way to Orido Village.
