"Hi, Heather," Zoe said, waiting for her outside class. "I have a proposal for you."
"Cheerleading...I know..." Heather said. "I heard you lost some people."
"We need to replace some members, including an alternate...and you'd be perfect for that," Zoe said.
She paused. "I'm on the swim team," she reminded Zoe.
"Swimming is a solo sport...Cheerleading is a team sport."
"Not the way you guys do it," Heather said. "Look, Zoe...I have nothing against you, but half the squad is there because they are your friends."
"What's wrong with having friends on the team?"
"If you were treating it seriously, like I do swimming, you wouldn't care about anything but how they were athletically."
"Presentation counts," Zoe said.
"Sure," Heather replied. "I don't walk around wearing a burlap sack or anything. But, tell you what...I heard you were having a second day of tryouts..."
"Yes, apparently someone tore down a bunch of our posters," Zoe said. "Some people didn't hear about it till after. So to be fair..."
"At some schools, cheerleading is a real sport. If you prove it is here, I might consider it as a second sport."
Zoe looked at her. "Great..I'll see you after school."
