"What's the catch?" Karyn asked.
"No catch." Miss Fine replied shaking her head. "Just promise me that you'll come to one of my sessions in the morning."
Karyn shrugged her shoulders. She usually listened to music on her phone, but she politely accepted the gift. Spending more time with Miss Fine, if she could trust herself not to be controlled by her, she could figure out how to get the upper hand.
Karyn opened the door and let Miss Fine in. "Mom! I'm home!" She called out.
Bethany Black entered the room. "Karyn...I thought you were sleeping over at your friend's house," she said. "I...what are you wearing?"
Karyn paused. She'd forgotten about her clothes for a moment. "I forgot a change of clothes so I had to borrow some." She didn't want to tell her mother some girl stole her clothes.
Miss Fine looked up. "I thought you told me a different story," she commented.
Bethany frowned. "You look lovely, dear. I didn't think this was your sort of look...but I've always thought you were beautiful." She paused. "Who is this?"
"This is Miss Fine, the new school counselor. She gave me a lift."
"I'm happy to meet you," Rebecca said, offering the woman a business card. "Karyn is a very intriguing young woman."
