That was the end of the first tryout session. Out of the thirty spots for the roster, 19 were already filled by the upperclassmen and returning students from the previous season. They were there there to participate and shake the rust off of them. That left 20 students fighting for only 11 spots. If the three dragons had there way, I would be one of the nine that would be cut. The next session was for Soccer and Football. They looked really conflicted. They wanted to play Soccer, but they also needed to keep an eye on me to ensure that I did not do well. I could see them huddle up. Eventually they made the decision that Metrec would be the one to follow me to practice. It was his ass on the line, so it made sense that he would have to see it through. Tokac's slit was on the line as well, but he must either value playing Soccer higher than me or think it really was impossible for me to succeed. Metrec just came right up to me and said "What position are you going for? You probably have something easy in mind like the fucking kicker, right?" There was no reason for me to tell him for him to sabotage.
Since it was only one of them, and he was not too good with catching the ball with his hands, it was easy to do what I needed to do. My performance was pretty good. A really good showing compared to my stalker. Metrec was really out of his field here. He fumbled and was hard tackled out of his cleats multiple times. The tiger that did it had to pick him up and take him to the bench to rest for a few minutes. On the plus side, the two got sympathetic applause from the rest of us on the field. I proved that I was good at tackling and running routes to the elephant coach. I even caught an interception from a shaky quarterback wannabe. That was a surefire shot. It would have to do for now. With another session to prove ourselves, I could always do better tomorrow. There were a good 23 students vying for 9 positions for the roster. With a very competitive field like this, I would still have my work cut out for me. There were large apes and monkeys. I also saw tigers and lions and bears of all types. To be honest, even with all of my cheats, I was not too confident that I clinched the position on the team.
I was changing in the locker room when Metrec, Tokac and Murgred came up to me. I was going to say something when a blond centaur with white fur came over to us. I looked at him like the dragons. He was pretty effeminate with an earring on his left ear. He also had a soft face, but his horse half was toned and looked powerful. "Are you done, Sunny!? I want to talk to you about the math homework." I blinked until I realized that we did share a math class. I smiled and said "Yes. I'm ready. Let's go. All of us are done for the day anyway." The centaur just smiled at me. "Where the hell do you think you're going?" Tokac demanded. I looked over my shoulder and said "We have to talk about something. Did you want to talk to me? If not, I need to go." He looked like he was going to confront me, but the other two held him back. "This is not over." Metrec warned me with a growl. I just rolled my eyes and walked out of the locker room with the centaur. The centaur's name was Aenos. He was also trying out today. He was going for the Cross Country team. I wished him well and he said "Thanks. You too."
Aenos was wearing a larger version of the school uniform pants on his hindlegs. I don't know how he got them on, but I assumed that they were there for modesty. There was no reason for me to question it. He looked at me and said "I saw you stick up to those three dragons today. That took some serious guts. Other humans would have backed down. I wanted to get to know you because it was so cool." He was beaming at me. I really had no idea how to take it. However, gaining friends and allies was better than not doing so. "Thanks. Someone had to do it and I wasn't going to let others tell me what I can and can't do." He seemed to be blushing as he nodded at me with his light brown eyes sparkling. There was a ping to tell me that my relationship with him had gone up. We had become friends. It was fine with me. We left the school building together. I apparently lived not too far away. I could do my homework, watch television, play video games, or go on the computer. I did my homework. It was all just a set of basic math and word problems that appeared as a minigame. I did well.
