After class was over, a class where Sarah actually tried to pay attention to the teacher for once, she headed to her locker to pick up her books for her next class.
She wasn't sure. She was still trying to find the 'real' her. Maybe the 'real' Sarah wanted to care more about her grades. On the way she spotted Karyn. Karyn's locker wasn't far from hers. But she usually was surrounded by her friends and didn't engage with her.
Sarah smiled. "Hi Karyn," she said trying to be friendly.
The other girl looked confused. "What do you want Sarah?" She asked, expecting trouble.
"Nothing," Sarah hrumphed. "I was just trying to be friendly."
"Yeah, right." Karyn scoffed. Since when had Sarah been friendly? Especially to her?
"Well, maybe I don't want to give you a hard time anymore," she said. "Maybe I shouldn't have."
"Are you trying to apologize to me? What's the trick?" Karyn asked.
"Paranoid much?" Sarah asked. "Honestly, Karyn, maybe you need to rethink your life too. Have you tried counseling?"
Karyn froze, suspiciously. "Have you been to see Miss Fine?"
Sarah nodded. "Yeah. She's great. It's like she saw through me to exactly what was bothering me...It felt great. You should try it..."
"Jon's been as well and he's been acting differently since he saw her. And you are as well." Karyn pointed out.
Sarah shrugged her shoulders. "She's a really nice woman...and she's good at what she does. Maybe Jon and I are acting differently because she helped us."
It sounded...reasonable. But Karyn still smelled something fishy. "Maybe I will go and see her," she said out loud.
"Good," Sarah said. "I'll see you later, Karyn. Maybe we'll hang out sometime." She headed toward class.
Karyn blinked. She wasn't an expert or anything, but if this wasn't something suspicious, why were people acting weird? She'd never been in therapy, but she didn't think that you had massive life changing experiences in one visit.
She headed down the hall to investigate. Suddenly, her next class didn't seem that important compared to this.
