Zoe looked back around the corner. She wanted to help her friend. But ... the rebellious side of her wanted to pursue Jon. After all, who said she couldn't date and convert people to Christianity at the same time? She certainly didn't want to be alone for the rest of her life.
Zoe thought about her parents...they must have dated...in a proper manner of course. Nadine seemed to think they were on some sort of crusade, as opposed to showing people a better way.
She chased after Nadine. "No," she said, firmly.
"No, what?" Nadine said.
"I'm not letting you boss me around anymore, Nadine," Zoe said, firmly. "You haven't convinced a single person to change since you started this. This isn't like our moms trying to shut down that place where underage kids get drunk, or have bad books taken out of the library."
Nadine made a noise. "Zoe, what's gotten into you?"
"You fight for their souls your way, and I'll fight for them my way." Zoe said, with some determination.
"I'm telling your mother," Nadine said.
