There no time to go anywhere before dinner, but Jon figured one phone call wouldn't hurt. Pulling out his cell phone, Jon began flipping through his contacts, looking for both the familiar and unfamiliar...
He looked for the names Zoe had mentioned in the recent call history. There was a Tim...Jon had never put last names in his phone. Of course, he hadn't thought to prepare for his entire reality changing.
He peeked out the window, over at the Drullers House, and spotted a knockout Hispanic girl on their porch, reading.
"Would you stop staring at her?" Zoe said, coming in.
"Staring at who?" their mother said, poking her head out of the kitchen. She turned and saw. "Oh. You know, Jon, I never understood what happened between you and Alana. She's such a nice girl. She used to be over here all the time, until you all got to high school."
"She got her braces off, got contacts, and got friendly with some of the more popular kids," Zoe said. "But she came to the Death Pew concert with us last night. I told you that you should have come."
New Mom, whatever her name was, looked concerned. "Zoe, you know it isn't fair to tease your brother."
"But it's true," Zoe said. "I'm not teasing him. I really think he should finally do something," she insisted.
"You can't rush these things, Zoe...How would you feel if Jon started pushing your relationships?"
Zoe nodded, accepting the point. Jon actually liked her new attitude. She was basically the same person, but her temper wasn't there, so she seemed...pleasant. He could live with that.
If only his brother and mother weren't missing, and the rest of his life being turned upside down.
