He was about to hang up the phone ... but that would be so rude. Gary was his friend, after all.
Kendall looked at the road. Where was he? Was he out of town? What in heaven's name was he doing way out here?
"Hold on a minute, honey," Kendall said, as he made a U-turn and started driving back to town. "Okay, go ahead. Tell me why you called."
Kendall was only a mile away from the base. It seemed Kendall was fine when he wasn't interacting with others...the moment he tried to interact with another person, he had lapses.
"It looked like I missed a call from you actually."
"You did? Oh, yes, Gail...I did call you. I was a bit rattled. We had a break-in last night. You know I work down at the bank, and we denied someone a loan...I just submit the paperwork...I don't make the actual decisions...but they took it personally I think. And they vandalized our house...with the nastiest racial slurs...I thought people in this day and age didn't act like that...especially not in our town. And with my daughter home to see it. I'm just happy my husband is out of town...he would go insane..."
Gary/Gail gasped...
