The security guard behind the desk looked up from what he was doing and when he spotted Karyn, he smiled. The expression of recognition on his face was unmistakable. Apparently, he knew who she was, even though she didn't know who he was.
"I thought you took the day off," he said.
"Yeah, but they took it back," she said, walking past and pressing the button for the elevator. She got off at the fifth floor and walked through a set of double doors into an office. The sign on the wall said Donovan and Associates, which really didn't tell her what she did for a living.
She walked down the hall with a sense of purpose, past cubicles, before entering an office and sitting down at the desk. "Oh, good, you're here," a familiar voice said. It belonged to a woman...the same woman from the phone. Karyn suddenly realized this was her boss...and Donovan was her boss's boss. How did she know that?
"I emailed you what we have so far. Everyone is on their way...Start reviewing the material. I need at least a few proposals by the end of the day."
"I'll get right on it, Carol," Karyn said, the name slipping into her brain. She spotted the nameplate on her office door as Carol closed it. "Karyn McGill, Creative Director."
She logged onto the computer and did a search for Donovan and Associates. It was an ad agency, and she was one of several creative directors. She googled the term, hoping she could pull this off.
