"I'm sure that considering the circumstances, you'd be better off in the nurse's office. Come on," she said, standing up and holding out her hand.
They headed to the Nurse's office. The school nurse was...well, less than useful...and everyone knew it. She was an older woman who was kind and friendly, but had been the nurse there for decades...
"I have some question for you, dear," she said. "Where are you?"
"At school."
"Where?"
"In Lake Point, of course," Jon said.
"Do you remember hitting your head?"
"No...I was in the park this morning, before school...I don't remember how or why I was there."
She shine a light in Jon's eyes... "That's fine."
"What's your name?"
"Jon," he insisted.
"Well, you seem fine. But you'd better stay here for a bit. And you too," she said to Jennifer. "Keep your friend talking...just in case. And I want to know about any other symptoms..."
She went into the other room to check on another injured child. Jennifer looked at Jon. "So, what exactly don't you remember?" She asked.
"First...when you came into class...I didn't remember you were my friend. Then I did...I can't remember who my friends are...I can't remember what my brothers and sisters look like...or how many I have of each..."
Jennifer frowned. She looked concerned. "Jon...you're an only child," she said. "You don't have brothers and sisters. I mean...you're always over at my house or Sam's house."
"Then I ran into some Goth girl in the hall, and she sort of looked familiar, but I'm sure I don't even know her name."
"Well, how could you miss one of them? I mean...the way they dress."
"What about my sister, do you remember her?"
"Sarah? What about her?" Jon said. "I mean, like, jeeze...could two twins be any less alike?" Jon froze, suddenly. "I...don't know where that came from."
"That's what you always say about my sister," Jennifer said.
