"Hey, girls," Nadine said, meeting them in the hall. At first, both she and Amber were smiling, but then their smiles turned into looks of concern. "Like, are you two okay?" Nadine asked.

Sarah looked confused and Zelda looked angry. "I'm fine," Zelda insisted. It was everything else that wasn't.

"Great," Nadine said. "So, I have this big date tonight, and..." Nadine was talking a mile a minute, sounding like a total airhead. Sarah wondered why she was surprised about that. Nadine was a great friend, and she wasn't stupid, but she was...easily distracted.

But she kept having these odd thoughts, envisioning Nadine as a total stick in the mud prude. And...why was she thinking everyone on the squad was bitchy like Zelda could be sometimes?

And then there was Amber. Sarah didn't understand Amber. Amber was a total overachiever type. Sarah didn't know how she had time for all her activities...or why she hung out with Nadine sometimes.

The thoughts whirled around in Sarah's mind, trying to right themselves. Sarah thought she was a nice, sweet person. why was her mind telling her she was supposed to be more like Zelda?
