Entering his place of business, he spotted to smile at the receptionist at the front desk. "Morning, Jon," he said.
Jon looked up, distractedly, with a slight frown on his face...Mikey? Images of a young boy flowed through his head for a moment. Wait, everything is wrong...I need to... The phone rang, and he answered it. After transferring the call to its proper destination, he looked up. What was I just going to do? He wondered.
"Good morning," he said back to Mikey. "You're a few minutes late. You have just enough time to put your things down, maybe check your email before the staff meeting," he said, helpfully.
"Linda was trying to get out of going to school. I'm not sure what's wrong, but we'll have to have a longer talk about it tonight, I suppose. Linda is really a sweet boy, most of the time...although a bit...spirited."
Something about that flagged in Jon's mind. He tried to focus. Every time he focused on the problem, he seemed to get...
"Can you sign for this?" A deliveryman said, walking up to him.
He did so, and turned back to Mikey. "Well, you'd better hurry up. I hear the meeting is important."
