Jay woke up to the sound of Fox news on his radio. The man was jabbering on about how climate change was just a hoax brought on by the French to sell liberals on the solar power scam. It was something he knew intellectually wasn't true, was in fact dangerous. He knew the science and the anti intellectual bent of these statements. He knew the danger, but he found himself slowly agreeing with the man on the radio non the less. His heart and head disagreed, but over the course of 20 mintues his head lost that battle in a wave of outrage and'  paranoia. Why should the scientists get all the air in the room, industry mattered too, and he liked his car, his way of life, why should he have to change? He spent the rest of the day reciting inane talking points, dismissing good well thought out ideas for thin defenses of bad ideas.

Athena woke up on a bed of unicorns and wizards. Her night stand and boomshelf covered in bad fantasy novels. On her wall a poster for House hufflepuff, and an original poster for Lord of the Rings. This was not her room. These were not her things. All of this stuff was a corruption of what she believed, what she knew to be real and respected. It was all fake magic.

Yet as she looked around she thought foundly of these bits of pop culture. They were fun. She was a bit puzzled at the hufflepuff, because she thought she'd be raven claw for sure, but she took the test again and there it was. She was such a goof sometimes. She found a wand and picked it up. "Accio mirror!" She said. Not expecting anything to happen. It was all just a story.

When she found her mirror she saw a naturalist and dopey look on her face, she smiled a silly smile, and felt enthusiastic about the day, giddy even. She was bright and cheery and carefree and though she knew this was nothing like her, it felt good to feel those things. She felt free from the burden of having to believe in magic, she could just blow off the gods and have a good day in something fake. She was reading when Nadine called.
