The moment Nadine Ferguson woke up, she knew something was wrong. She had a very distinct feeling of anxiety that she had never had before. It was a need, but she couldn't exactly figure out a need for what.
Pulling off her covers and getting out of bed, she was shocked both by the look of herself and her bedroom. First of all, she was completely naked. She clearly remembered going to bed in her frumpy conservative nightgown. So where did her clothes go? Second, looking at herself in her mirror, she saw that her looks had been enhanced, making her look quite slutty, though in a gothic sort of way. But despite being firmly against that sort of thing, she liked it. Her bedroom was filled with old fashioned wood and cast-iron-looking furniture, her walls were painted silver and black, and ... Nadine looked closer at her bookshelf. Yesterday, there was her Bible, a bunch of religious guides and books. But now there was nothing but a bunch of books on witchcraft. She thought she would feel disgust, seeing those there, but she felt nothing but contentment. Why was she okay with this? Why was she okay with being what she could only think of as a "slutty witch" girl?
There was only one other witch she knew of ... a girl she had made it her mission to condemn and detest - Athena DeVries (the original Zoe Gibson's best friend). If anyone knew what was happening to her, it was her. She never thought that she would ever actually want to talk with Athena. But right now, she thought fondly of her, as if the Goth girl were a kindred spirit.
She had the girl's phone number around there somewhere. She remembered that a few weeks ago, she was forced to do a school project with her, so Athena gave Nadine her number. Finding the piece of paper with the number on it, stashed away in her desk, Nadine called her. But the person who answered wasn't the same Athena that she remembered.
"Athena?" Nadine asked over the phone.
How did she change? What did Athena DeVries hate or dislike the most?
