"Umm...Sarah..."
Something about that name from him just bothered her. It seemed wrong. "Yes?"
"Are you...umm...all right?" He said.
"You really should have paid attention when this whole thing was explained," Sarah scolded him.
He looked at her. "Are you listening to yourself?"
"I am. You are the one who isn't listening," she said. "Do you want to participate in this retreat or not? You don't have to, you know. No one is going to force you to give your nametag away...recent events aside."
"What's going to happen to my mother?"
"She isn't your mother anymore, Jon," Sarah said, putting a comforting hand on his shoulder. "She's a teenager, with the emotions that come with that."
"You mean she's going to think of me like you do?"
"I think you are sweet, actually...caring about her," Sarah said.
Jon withdrew from her hand. "This is nuts."
"That is quite enough," Sarah said. "If you can't be pleasant, then I will see you when the event is over."
