Apparently Ginny's time with Harry was paying dividends, or something from Muggle Studies stayed with her.
"Thermos." she repeated, in a more quizzical tone.
Either Hermione's smile was too big, or Ginny simply worked it out, but she too smiled, and chinking their tea cups against one another added, "Well, it'll keep them busy for a while."
Ginny's smile vanishing as she raised the cup to her lips. The prankster sense was strong in the Weasley DNA apparently. Hermione's sense of guilt at the thought of the Weasleys' being crammed into their own garage trying to replicate her magical artefact, well, it evaporated. The girls were also sure that Molly appreciated having them out from under her feet.
"Boys." Ginny snorted with amusement, but without malice as she lowered her cup.
"Yeah, they can be entertaining."
Hermione took the opportunity to probe Ginny about Poly-juice, and her own problem with Millicent Bullstrode's cat. The pair chatted idly for a while, before she brought up the idea of a gender-change poly-juice. Just curiosity, obviously. But coming from two muggle parents, she was interested in knowing if those raised by a witch and a wizard were more .... experimental.
Leaning closer, so as not to be overheard, Hermione listened intently for Ginny's answer. The pause in the conversation felt like enough of an answer to her, but she was eager for more details.
Her head darting to every door and window, Ginny checked she wasn't being observed or overheard, before she too leaned towards Hermione.
"But, at one dinner there was an awkward conversation at the table. A joke about me being the first Weasley daughter to go to school. Fred and George exchanged amused looks and a silence fell across the whole house."
"So." pressed Hermione, "Did you see Freya or Georgina?" she asked eager for every salacious detail.
"I don't think they were experimenting on themselves at that point... but I can't be sure even of that...."
"Yeah, but you saw the twins smile. You must have seen something else... an idea who was Molly's first daughter...."
"Well, I did try and winkle it out of them later. But, either they had received a firm warning from Mum, or perhaps the Ministry? But, I worked out, the spell lasted almost a week."
The two girls exchanged looks, as Hermione quickly reached the same conclusion.
"So, it wasn't polyjuice."
Ginny just shook her head in agreement, as she took another deep swallow of her tea.
Hermione eager for more, realised that Ginny didn't know any more, and thought that part of the conversation was over. She swallowed her frustration with another mouthful of tea, but she had a lot to consider. It certainly sounded like that old spell book was genuine.
Her first thoughts, had been to take away one of the divisions between them. As a swat, she wondered if Harry and Ron would find it easier if she were a Herman, rather than a Hermione. But a teasing thought at the back of her mind wondered how Ron would cope with being female. Or perhaps, with Malfoy's experience as a ferret, he should take a turn at being a witch.
