Hawaii- Sarah- part 2
This was her dream. Never before had she had the chance to go to this camp, she had read about it, but her team mates never had the drive to take time out from a comfortable summer at home, to have to raise money, to have to practice when they didn't have to, even if it did mean a trip. It was lucky chance that it was in Hawaii this year which only added to her joy. As they got off the plane and walked into the summer sunshine and had lays put on them, she had already felt victory at what she had done. She had lucked into a magic which had changed a Jock, a Nun, a nobody, an Emo, a goth and a nerd into what she was promised would be world class cheerleaders, the fact that she had gotten half of them to show for this was a victory. It wasn't a total victory, but that was fine, it was clear that they were moving towards that. For that assurance she had Karyn, who she had been spending more and more time with, each day she could almost feel the changes happening in Karyn, like a pleasant itch, like sweat coming off in the shower, it was refreshing to have a protege, someone to rub off on. Karyn seemed skeptical at first, being honest they both were, but as time followed they found a pleasure in each others company. Being honest they both felt that Karyn had a lot of catching up to do and Sarah was only happy to help further Karyn into something a little more, her.
They were put in separate rooms to build relationships with the other girls. Sarah had gotten Miranda, the former Randy, she had known him while he was on the football team and thought it would be fun to see the differences and similarities between Miranda and Randy. She was upset to find that they were few, Miranda being a redhead was passion and she channeled that into a drive to win. It was what made her so good at sports, she was here to be the best at Cheerleading, and she was all business about it and easily annoyed by small talk and the girly time that Sarah was hoping to have with her new friend. Miranda didn't want to have friends, she just wanted to get on with the training. A few days in Sarah wasn't so sure that Miranda was a good choice for the team.
Then there was Nadine, who almost seemed crazy when you thought about how she used to be, it was like having a brand new person on the team. It was hard to trust that, she was into trying out the moves, she didn't seem to have a problem being a cheerleader, but there was something about the way she spoke french that made everyone uneasy. Something wasn't right, something that lay so deep in the subtext of what was happening that it was hard to call it out. Karyn was sure to complain about it when they would have alone time for some juicy gossip.
By weeks end though, half way through the trip, even Karyn was getting on Sarah's nerves. Every day they would come out of their rooms and be dressed the exact same and one of them would have to go change. It was funny the first day, the second it was strange, the third time they both thought it was a prank by the other, the fourth they were both annoyed, and the fifth they made sure to send the other girl in there room out to check and see what the other was wearing. Karyn was starting to take the "twin" thing too far, she was even starting to talk like Sarah and steal some of the phrases which were HER phrases! This thing could only go so far, the team didn't need two of her on it, and Sarah was starting to resent the completion she was getting at being herself.
The dream was becoming a nightmare.
